Created out of the aftermath of the Hays Code, which enforced strict morality rules on cinema — the films in this series offer a masterclass in disguising subversive messaging with fast-talking banter, laughter and innuendo. 

The series continues in February with one of the most charming films of the 1930's- IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT! Tickets to all Sunday Screwballs are available now at hiwaytheater.org/specials

????? ??? ?????: This early screwball comedy features spitfire dialogue between Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. A spoiled rich girl escapes from her millionaire father, who wants to stop her from marrying a worthless playboy. En route to New York, she gets involved with an out-of-work newsman. When their bus breaks down, the bickering pair set off on a comic hitchhiking expedition.
